Two issued compounds for fishing in public during MCO

KUCHING: Police have issued 25 compounds to errant individuals for violating movement control order (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs), on Thursday (June 17).

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Kuching recorded the most compounds with eight, followed by Mukah (six), Miri (four), Sarikei (three), Bintulu (one), Dalat (one), Sibu (two), and Lawas (one).

“The violations were; out in a public beyond past curfew without reasonable excuse (nine); failing to scan the MySejahtera app when entering premises (eight); failing to wear face masks (three); fishing in public (two); opening premises that are prohibited from operating (two); and travelling between districts without permit (one).

“This brings the total amount of compounds issued since March 18 last year to 7,922.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Local Government and Housing issued four compounds to business operators of premises under the supervision of various local councils.

Two compounds were issued under Lundu District Council, while one compound each was issued under Sarikei District Council and Miri City Council respectively.

SDMC added that the businesses violated SOPs such as failing to update the customer logbooks (three); and operating beyond the allowed time (one).

“This brings the total amount of compounds issued by local authorities since Feb 1 this year to 1,099.”
