MIRI: Two men were killed in a motorcycle crash after the machine veered into the opposite lane and collided with a car nearby Kejapil junction at Bekenu on Sunday.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said that both victims were aged 20 and identified as Clarance Ramos Kerry (rider) and Steven Ateng (pillion rider).

“The pillion rider died on the spot, while the rider succumbed to his injuries at Miri Hospital following the 12.50pm collision,” he said.

Prior to the crash, the motorcycle was heading towards Bintulu from Miri.

“Upon reaching the scene, the motorcycle swerved into the opposite lane and slammed into the front part of the car,” Alexson added.

The impact of the collision threw both the rider and his pillion off the motorcycle.

Meanwhile, the driver of the car, a school teacher in her early 40s sustained light injuries.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
