SARIKEI: The kitchen areas of two houses at Jalan Lavender off Jalan Merudu here, caught fire today.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported as five tenants from the affected houses managed to get out to safety.
A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Sarikei station were deployed to the scene after receiving a distressed call around 11.15am.
Upon arrival, the team confirmed the incident and the extinguishing deed was carried out immediately.
The flames were brought under control under15 minutes and it was fully extinguished at 11.40am.
It was reported that the fire had caused 30 per cent and 20 per cent damages to the first and second house.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
