KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here sentenced a man to seven months in jail for drug abuse that occurred seven years ago.
Sim Gee Kai, 33, pleaded guilty on Tuesday (June 13) before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar to a charge framed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.
The offence took place at the Padawan Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) office on Aug 16, 2016, at around 3.50pm. Magistrate Zaiton ordered Sim to begin serving his prison sentence immediately.
In a separate case, another man was sentenced to five months in jail for the same offence. Ahmad Tajuddin Abu Bakar, 29, tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine when he was arrested at the Kuching NCID office on April 3 at noon.
ASP Rogayah Rosli handled the prosecution in both cases while the convicted individuals were unrepresented by counsels.
