Two motorcyclists killed in separate accidents

MIRI: Two motorcyclists were killed in separate accidents that occurred within an hour last Friday (Mar 19).

Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the first accident happened around 6.30pm at KM2, Jalan Pembalakan Samling, Ulu Baram in Marudi.

The accident involved a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle and a motorcycle, travelling in opposite directions.

“The 4WD vehicle with four persons on board, were heading towards Long San when it was said to have gone out of control while going uphill and entered the other lane before colliding with the oncoming motorcycle.

“As a result, the motorcyclist identified as Sukung Emang, 41, sustained injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said.

The body was taken to Miri Hospital for further actions. All the four persons inside the 4WD vehicle were unharmed in the incident.

The scene of the accident at Jalan Lama Miri-Bintulu in which a 31-year-old man died.

Meanwhile, an accident involving a lorry and a motorcycle happened around 7.30pm at Jalan Lama Miri-Bintulu near Ladang 3 in Miri.

Alexson said investigations found that prior to the accident, the lorry was heading into a junction to Ladang 3.

“As the lorry entered the junction, the 46-year-old driver suddenly heard a sound as if something had hit the back of the lorry.

“The driver stopped the lorry to inspect the incident and found a motorcycle and a man on the road.

“The driver immediately called his employer to alert the police of the incident,” he said.

The victim identified as Salmichael Jonathan, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene by Suai Health Clinic personnel.

Alexson said both cases were being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
