BINTULU: Two local men were apprehended by the police for drug abuse and possession as well as intent to distribute illegal substances.

The district police arrested the suspects, age 35 and 36, at Jalan Tanjung Batu and Jalan Tun Hussein Onn yesterday.

Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomew Umpit said the police has also conducted inspections on both suspects and found various types of drugs.

“The team searched the suspects and found 223 grams of powdered Ecstasy, 7.5 grams of Ecstasy pills and 2.2 grams of Ketamine drug.

“Both suspects were also tested positive for Amphetamine, Methamphetamine and Katemine. They are now in the police’s custody to assist with the investigation,” he said.

Both suspects are being investigated under Section 39B, Section 39A, Section 12(2), and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

In a separate case, the district police have arrested a 20-year-old male suspect for using a registered number plate belonging to a motorcycle in Johor on a car.

This arrest was also made on Thursday at Jalan Sultan Iskandar at 12pm when police traffic officers checked the registration number using Mobile Computerised Online Payment System (MCOPS).

“The police traffic officer checked the registration number on the suspect’s sedan vehicle and found out it belongs to a motorcycle in Johor.

“Hence, the police apprehended the suspect for using an already registered number plate,” said Batholomew.

He added the suspect is in custody for further action and the case is investigated under Section 108 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The district police chief advised the public in Bintulu to inform the police of any criminal and drug activities at their hotline, 086-318304.
