SIBU: Marine police here arrested two locals for allegedly possessing 70,000 litres of diesel without any valid permission from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP).

The operation codenamed ‘Op Kontraban’ was carried out around 8.30am on yesterday (Nov 21) when a team detained a suspicious cargo vessel for inspection in Kapit waters.

Sibu OCPD ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement said the team found that the vessel was loaded with 70,000 litres of diesel.

Apart from that, the skipper and his assistant, aged 62 and 59 respectively, had failed to produce any valid document to possess, store or transport controlled items from KPDNHEP.

“Both suspects along with the seized diesel were taken to the Sibu Marine Police Region 5 headquarters for further action.”
