KUCHING: Sarawak recorded two new Covid-19 positive cases on Monday (Dec 7).

The two cases, categorised as a locally transmitted case and an imported case detected in Serian and Kuching respectively, brought the cumulative total of Covid-19 cases detected in the state to 1,070.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the first case involved an Indonesian citizen who is the wife of Case 1,066.

“Case 1,069 lives at the workplace and is an employee of the same oil palm plantation. Preliminary information found that the case had also returned to Kalimantan, Indonesia and re-entered in early October along with Case 1,066.

“The case was detected and screened during an active case detection on December 5 and was found to be positive for Covid-19 on December 6. The case also did not experience any signs or symptoms of Covid-19 infection,” it said in a statement on Monday.

As for Case 1,070, SDMC said it involved a local man who returned from Gabon, Central Africa on December 2.

“He was a bulldozer driver at a logging camp in Gabon. He embarked on his flight from Libreville, Gabon and stopped in several countries on the African continent including Dubai, UAE before arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA1) on December 4.

“During transit at KLIA1, the case underwent Covid-19 screening using RTK Antigen and the result was negative for Covid-19. The case then continued his journey to Kuching on the same day,” it said.

Upon arrival in Kuching on December 4, SDMC said the case was admitted to a hotel quarantine centre to undergo compulsory 14-day quarantine.

“The case was re-screened on December 5 and the rT-PCR test was positive on December 6. The case also showed no signs or symptoms of Covid-19 infection,” it clarified.

The committee said there were also no additional cases to the four existing active clusters in Sarawak.

It added that there was one newly recovered and discharged case from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“This brings the total of recovered and discharged cases to 1,035 or 96.73 percent of the total cases recorded in Sarawak,” it said.
