KUCHING: Sarawak recorded two new positive Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases in the state thus far to 677.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement said, one of the cases was from Kuching while the other from Serian.

It said Case 676, a local woman, was a close contact of Case 630 who was confirmed on July 23.

“The case is the mother of Case 630. She often visited Case 630 every week and the last time she visited her child was on July 11. The case was detected through active detection involving the Sentosa Cluster,” SDMC said, adding that the case did not show any sign or symptom.

The patient was swabbed for a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rT-PCR) test on July 27 at a screening centre in Serian and was found to be positive on July 28. She was admitted to hospital on the same day.

Meanwhile, Case 677 was a foreign man with a history of close contact with Case 581 who was confirmed on July 14.

“The case was detected through active detection involving the Mambong Cluster. This case also did not show any sign or symptom,” it said.

The patient was swabbed for an rT-PCR test on July 27 at a government health clinic and was found positive on July 28, whereupon he was admitted to the hospital on the same day.

The committee reported that both cases involved clusters that were still active, namely the Sentosa Cluster and Mambong Cluster.

“No new cluster has been detected today (Wednesday), meaning that the total number of active clusters in Sarawak remains at ten – nine in Kuching and one in Bintulu,” the statement said.

SDMC also reported one new recovery case had been discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), bringing the total number of recovered and discharged cases thus far to 565 or 83.46 percent.
