Two new clusters detected

KUCHING: Two new Covid-19 clusters known as the Sebangkoi Cluster and Jun Heng Cluster have been identified by the state Health Department.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the index case for Sebangkoi Cluster in Sri Aman was Case 4,400 where a local 59-year-old symptomatic woman was screened on Jan 29 while being referred to Sri Aman Hospital from a health clinic in Batu Lintang.

“The case has travelled to Kuching District on Jan 3 to 9 for a skin disease treatment.

“Contact tracing through this case has detected an additional 20 cases.

“As of Jan 5, a total of 197 individuals were screened, with 21 positive cases detected including the index case, 80 individuals tested negative, and 96 individuals are awaiting results,” it stated.

Meanwhile, the index case for the Jun Heng Cluster was Case 4,300 is a local man who tested positive on Jan 28 after the symptomatic individual went for screening at a private hospital in Bintulu.

“He infected his family members and then has spread the virus to the workplace.

“The contact tracing to this case resulted in detecting an additional 18 positive cases.

“As of Feb 5, a total of 105 individuals were screened, with19 positive cases detected including the index case and 83 individuals are awaiting results,” they added.

As of Friday, there were fourteen remaining Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak, namely Sebangkoi Cluster in Sri Aman; Jun Heng Cluster in Bintulu; Bintang Daily Cluster in Meradong; Jalan Pengiran Cluster in Matu; Tabong Cluster in Bau; Keranji Tabuan Cluster, Indah Riang Cluster, and Stutong Cluster in Kuching; Bedayan Cluster in Serian; Rakut Cluster, Jelita Cluster and Bah Sayap Cluster in Miri; Bukit Sekubong Cluster in Sebauh; and Pasai Cluster in Sibu.

Meanwhile, Kuching District has returned to orange status from red status after recording only 35 cases of local transmission in the last 14 days.

Beluru, Kapit, Song, Dalat, Bintulu, Kanowit, Miri and Sibu districts remained red zones with the total local transmission cases at 1,929 within the last 14 days.

Matu, Sri Aman, Selangau, Bau, Lundu, Subis and Betong districts remained as orange zones with 186 locally transmitted cases in the last 14 days.

Sarikei, Daro, Sebauh, Lawas, Telang Usan, Bukit Mabong, Tatau, Pakan, Serian, Belaga, Meradong, Julau, Simunjan, Lubok Antu, and Samarahan remained as yellow zones with a total of 132 locally transmitted cases during the last 14 days.
