Two new Covid-19 deaths in state

KUCHING: The state recorded two new deaths related to Covid-19 infection today (Mar 30).

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in announcing this said the current death toll stands at a total of 107 people.

It said the first death was that of a 33-year-old local man who was treated at Miri Hospital for shortness of breath.

“The case was coughing the day before seeking treatment at the hospital. His rT-PCR test was positive on March 28.

“The man who died on 28 March 28 had comorbid hypertension,” said SDMC in a statement today.

The committee said the second fatality was a 61-year-old local man who was treated at Bintulu Hospital after close contact screening.

“His rT-PCR test was positive on March 20 and he was confirmed dead on March 30. He had comorbidities of high blood pressure and diabetes.

“The State Disaster Management Committee extends its condolences to all family members of the victims,” said SDMC which also stated that 211 new cases had recovered and allowed to be discharged today.

“Of the total, 63 were discharged from Miri Hospital, Bintulu Hospital (32), Sarawak General Hospital (30), Sibu Hospital (29), low-risk treatment centre (PKRC) under Sri Aman Hospital (18), PKRC Betong (18), PKRC under Kapit Hospital (seven), Sarikei Hospital (five), PKRC Mukah (five) and PKRC Serian (four). 

“These bring the total number of Covid-19 positive cases that have recovered and allowed to be discharged to 13,255 people or 81.75 percent of the total cases in Sarawak.”

It added that 2,794 active cases are still receiving treatment and segregated in PKRC and hospital wards according to the referral hospitals.

Meanwhile, 158 new PUIs have been reported and one PUI is still awaiting laboratory test results.
