KUCHING: Sarawak recorded two new Covid-19 deaths today (May 1), bringing the state’s death toll from the virus to 180.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the 179th death was Case 24,259, a 72-year-old local woman who was found positive on Apr 18. The case was related to the Sungai Duan cluster.

“After being found positive, the woman was placed at the low-risk quarantine and treatment centre (PKRC) in Mukah.

“However, she was later referred to Bintulu Hospital after she started experiencing symptoms of fever, cough and breathing difficulties.

“Her condition deteriorated and she passed away on Apr 28. The case had comorbidities of high blood pressure, diabetes and dyslipidaemia,” the committee said.

Meanwhile, the second case — 180th death — was Case 28,825, a 75-year-old local man who received emergency treatment at Serian Hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties.

A week before that, the man experienced cough symptoms.

“His reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test was positive on Apr 26. He was immediately referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.

“However, the man’s condition deteriorated and he passed away on Apr 30,” SDMC said.

The case had comorbidities of high blood pressure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
