KUCHING: Sarawak renowned chanteuse Alena Murang is thrilled to be nominated for two award categories at the Buenos Aires Music Video Festival held from Nov 27 to 29.
The half Kelabit artiste is in the running for Best International Video and Best Styling awards via her music video ‘Midang Midang’.
Speaking to New Sarawak Tribune on Monday (Nov 16), Alena said she would be up against big names such as Madonna under the Best International Video category.
“My team and I are overjoyed with the nominations. It means a lot to us and for stories from our small community to be shared on platforms such as these.
“Even in this pandemic, our Kelabit Highlands is making its way through festival around the world.
“It is an honour to be nominated for the BAMV festival as the line-up of judges is well-esteemed. One of the judges is Jason Baum who has worked on MVs by Beyoncé, Muse and Zee Avi,” she said.
“We’re particularly happy to receive the Styling nomination, as one of the things we set out to do through this music video was to showcase Malaysian heritage, Sarawakian in particular, through fashion.
“All the pieces worn in the music video are from Sarawakian designers and almost all accessories were locally sourced!
“I am so grateful to be able to share the heritage from our small community with the world,” she added.
‘Midang Midang’ music video, which was launched on Nov 27 last year with the support of Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) and Miri CIty Council, was filmed in Bario and Miri and produced by Project Room and Kanid.
The Buenos Aires Music Video Festival 2020 (BAMV Fest) will be held virtually from Nov 27 to 29 in Argentina.
