Two Sarawak firms get Shell contract

KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak Shell Berhad has awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract for standard lightweight wellhead platforms to two companies in Sarawak.

The two companies, namely Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation (Brooke Dockyard) and OceanMight Sdn Bhd, are among the subsidiary of KKB Engineering Berhad.

Commenting on the contract, country chair of Shell Malaysia and senior vice president of Upstream Malaysia Siti Sulaiman said that it marked a milestones in driving the development of local contractors’ performance improvement.

“Under the stewardship of Malaysia Petroleum Management, Petronas, Shell Malaysia as the petroleum arrangement contractor continues to enable participation of local players in the industry and assist in enhancing their capabilities.

“This strategy is also aligned with the company’s plans over the next few years to develop gas fields off Sarawak,” she said in a statement.

She said the scope of work awarded is for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) for standard lightweight wellhead platforms in Sarawak and subject to overall contracting strategy (OCS) approval by Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM).

“This includes our ongoing activities within all the shallow water production sharing contracts (PSCs) in Sarawak with the first application for F27, Selasih, and F22 fields under Malaysia LNG Production Sharing Contract (PSC).

“The fields are located approximately 180 kilometres north of Bintulu off the cost of Sarawak with a water depth of around 90 metres,” she added.

On another note, Shell Malaysia which is one of the pioneers in the country’s energy industry, is proactively pursuing competitive upstream investment and developing local potential in navigating the energy transition.
