KANOWIT: Two villagers sustained minor injuries while extinguishing a house fire in Kampung Nanga Tada on Thursday (Nov 17).
The incident happened around 9.25pm and firemen from Kanowit and Sibu Jaya stations were despatched to the scene.
A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) said the fire had caused 25 per cent damages and involved the ceiling of the house.
The flames were successfully put out by the villagers using water from the house before the team arrived at the scene.
While carrying out extinguishing works, two men were left injured – one with swelling on his hand and another with cuts on his leg.
The team took over the scene and carried out overhaul works to ensure that the fire was completely put out.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team wrapped up the operation at 12.10am and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
