KUCHING: Sarawak will have two teams playing in next year’s Premier League following Malaysian Football League (MFL) announcement that Sarawak United (formerly known as Selangor United) are now fully owned by Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) and eligible to play in the Premier League.

MFL in a statement said the decision has been made during its board of directors’ meeting on Dec 12 after they received the application from FAS and checked every document submitted by FAS and found that it had made changes to the name of the team accordingly.

”After checking on the application, the board members confirmed that Sarawak United had applied to the Sports Commission (PJS) and the Registrar of Companies Malaysia (SSM) for the process of changing the team’s name.

“Basically, MFL approved the application but it is still subjected to PJS and SSM approvals,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, MFL has extended to Dec 23 for Sarawak United to confirm its participation in next year’s league.
