Two teenage ‘road stuntmen’ held

SIBU: Traffic police here last night arrested two teenagers for riding their motorcycles dangerously and recklessly along Jalan Sibujaya.

The operation codenamed ‘Ops Samseng Jalanan’ carried out by six personnel from the district’s traffic police, took place from 4pm to 9pm.

Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement, said the team spotted two individuals riding their motorcycles dangerously.

“Both of them aged 16 and 17, were arrested and taken to Sibu police headquarters (IPD) for further investigation under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“If convicted, they can be fined up to RM15,000, sentenced to jail up to five years as well as licence disqualification up to five years,” he said.

Throughout the operation, the team had confiscated six motorcycles for various offences.

Other than that, traffic summonses were also issued for offences involving driving licence, exhaust modification, structural modifications, registration number, expired road tax and side mirror.

Zulkipli advised the public to continue abiding by the traffic laws and parents should monitor their children activities so they do not engage in activities that violate traffic laws.
