KUCHING: Police here have solved two theft cases at Muara Tabuan Light Industrial Park and Tabuan Tranquility with the arrest of a dispatcher here yesterday.

The 29-year-old suspect was arrested at 9.40am at his work place in Sungai Maong.

District police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said with this arrest, police have successfully solved two cases reported by two complainants within 48 hours.

“The suspect’s modus operandi targets vehicle workshops whereby, the crime will take place when the owner of the premises is busy serving customers and carrying out repair works.

“The first complainant, an owner of a workshop at Muara Tabuan Light Industrial Park, reported of missing door frame on July 13. While, the second complainant reported of missing sport rim worth RM3,000 in an incident that occurred the following day on July 14, at a workshop at Tabuan Tranquility. Awang Din pointed out that the suspect had been stealing for two days in a row. However, the illegal act has been successfully intercepted by police following the arrest.

“The suspect led the raiding team to recover the stolen items belonging to both complaints, which then led to the arrest of two other men who are used goods traders aged 62 and 32. They were detained to facilitate police investigations.

“All three suspects were tested negative for drugs. Both the 29 and 32 years old men have no criminal record. However, the 62-year-old man has six criminal records (five of property crimes and a drug case),” he added.

He noted that the remand application under section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code would be made against the three suspects in the Magistrate’s Court today.

“Further investigation will continue to be conducted to identify the involvement of all these suspects in the theft case. The success of resolving these theft cases is also one of the proactive measures by the police in combating theft cases around Kuching City.
