Two-year good behaviour bond for having dangerous weapon

KUCHING: A mechanic was ordered to two-year good behaviour bond by the Sessions Court today for possessing an illegal kerambit (machete), a dangerous weapon.


The accused, Mahadi Mohamad, 31 pleaded guilty to a charge read before Judge Mohd Taufik Mohd @ Mohd Yusoff.


According to the facts of the case, the accused committed the offence at Kampung Rampangi at around 4.30 am on March 22.


Because of the offence, Judge Mohd Taufik had charged the accused under Section 7 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
If convicted, the accused may face punishment of imprisonment between five and 10 years.


Based on the facts of the case, the police were patrolling Kampung Rampangi when the accused attempted to escape using a car.


When the police made an inspection on him, a kerambit was found in a sling bag belonging to the accused, which led to the arrest of the accused and was brought to the police station for further actions to be taken.

Further investigation revealed that Mahadi failed to provide any reasonable reason for owning the kerambit as a weapon.


DPP Danial Mohamad Ali prosecuted the case and was investigated by Insp Jekadeshnaidu Panirselvam.
