KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud received two courtesy calls at Astana Negeri, Petra Jaya, here, yesterday.

The first courtesy call was by members of Sarawak Regatta-Kuching Waterfront Festival 2018 committee led by Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who is also minister responsible for the Sarawak Regatta-Kuching Waterfront Festival 2018.

The visit was to invite Tun Taib to officiate at the closing ceremony of the Sarawak Regatta-Kuching Waterfront Festival 2018 at Kuching Waterfront on 4 November.

Regata Sarawak 2018 will start from 26 October until 4 November which is expected to be declared open by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Many finge activties will also be held such as food fest, sale of handicrafts, busking and others for the benefit of visitors.

Also present during the courtesy call were Assistant Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises and E-Commerce, Datuk Naroden Majais, Peremanant Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Hii Chang Kee and Resident of  Kuching Division, Ismail Mohamad Hanis.

The second courtesy call was by Chairman of DBP Malaysia Board, Dr Mohamed Hatta Shaharom.

The visit was to thank Tun Taib for his contributions and support to DBP especially in the development of the Malay language as the national language without putting aside ethnic languages, especially in Sarawak.

Also present was Acting Director of DBP Sarawak Branch, Haliza Jamaluddin and Assistant Director of Research and Development DBP Satawak Branch, Dr Santrol Abdullah.
