SPAOH: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah wants the Public Works Department (JKR) to find ways to speed up the construction of two road projects in Spaoh.

The two are the Ulu Paku/ Ulu Gerenjang/ Ulu Krian/ Ulu Kota Road (Phase 1)  and the Penom/ Ulu Bayor/ Danau Road (Phase 1).

He said the Ulu Paku/ Ulu Gerenjang/Ulu Krian/ Ulu Kota Road was now 29 per cent behind schedule.

He said the RM15.2 million 6.9- kilometre-long road was scheduled to be completed on 13th October 13 last year. Then this was rescheduled to March 27 this year.

“For the second project, the 7.4-kilometre-long Penom to Danau Road, it was scheduled to be completed on April 30, 2021. Now its revised scheduled was Feb 22 this year, 2022.

“This RM9.9 million project is 45 per cent delayed,” he said after visiting d the two projects here today,

Expressing his concern over the delays in their completion, Uggah directed the JKR to come up with solutions for the respective contractors to catch up on the delays.

He said among the reasons for the delay were insufficient machineries at the sites, bad weather and termination of the sub-contractors for poor performance.

Later, Uggah who is Bukit Saban Parti Pesaka Bumiputera (PBB) branch chairman also officiated at the joint triennial delegate conference of PBB Brutan Ulu and Brutan Ili sub branches (ranting).

In his speech he reminded the people to continue to observe all Covid-19 pandemic standard operating procedures in place.

“Although we have seen low cases (in Sarawak) for quite a while since last year to early this year, the figures are slowly increasing now.

“We must continue to be on guard despite having received our Covid-19 vaccination and the booster jabs,” he said.

Uggah said the government has started giving the vaccine jabs to children below 12 years old, hence, parents must make full use of this opportunity to protect their young ones.
