KUALA LUMPUR:  The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) that was set up under the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Department serves as a medium to convey information from the state government to the people.

Ukas director Awang Johari Awang Mustapha said the function of UKAS established on Aug 1, 2018 would not overlap with the Sarawak Information Department as it focused more on information delivered at the state level.

“Ukas is a newly established unit and through the role of Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), we hope to come out with the cooperation that could be created together between the two agencies,” he said after a courtesy call to Wisma Bernama here today.

Also present were Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang and Bernama editor-in-chief Datuk Zakaria Abdul Wahab.

During the nearly one- hour visit, the officials from UKAS were briefed by Zakaria on the services and role of Bernama.

Meanwhile, Azman said Bernama played a role as a news bridge connecting Sabah and Sarawak with the Peninsula since its existence over 50 years ago.
