KUALA LUMPUR: Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) bagged two gold medals at the International Convention on Quality Control Circle (ICQCC) 2023, which was held in Beijing, China, from Oct 29 to Wednesday.

In a statement yesterday, UKM vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Ekhwan Toriman said the success demonstrated the efficiency and great potential of the university’s workforce in their ongoing efforts to boost innovation.

According to him, the first gold medal was contributed by a team from the Radiology Department of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM that invented the MP-Cradle, which provided optimal radiation protection for children undergoing x-ray examinations.

He explained that MP-Cradle offered radiation protection to paediatric patients who were extremely sensitive to radiation, in addition to providing effective protection during medical procedures. “It also functions as a restraint device to prevent the uncontrolled movement of paediatric patients.

“This tool provides radiation protection that can be adjusted according to examination needs and is suitable for use in various types of medical imaging machines,” he said, adding that the effectiveness of MP-Cradle which is made from recycled and environmentally friendly materials, has been recognised by certified experts.

Mohd Ekhwan stated that the university’s Treasurer’s Department Delay of Supplier Payment initiative contributed the second gold medal to UKM at the ICQCC 2023.

“This team has succeeded in producing a customercentric innovation through the digitisation and automation of the UKM e-procurement payment process, from claim to payment to supplier accounts,” he said.

Mohd Ekhwan hoped that these achievements would inspire the university to continue to be a prominent research centre and that the findings would be shared not just nationally but also internationally.

“Hopefully this success will serve as a catalyst for more groundbreaking innovations that have a big impact on the university and society,” he added. – BERNAMA
