Unconscious MoH staff confirmed dead

KUCHING: A Ministry of Health (MoH) staff member, who was found unconscious in the resting room of a hotel on Thursday, was confirmed dead by the police.

At 7.07pm, police received information pertaining to the incident where the health staff member, who working at the hotel used as a quarantine centre, was found unconscious on the second floor of the building.

District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah who confirmed the case, said the victim from Mukah is a 28-year-old medical assistant who had just been assigned to the quarantine centre on Aug 2.

“A police team along with an ambulance team arrived at the scene and investigations found no wounds on the body, no signs of foul play, and no forced entry as well as no loss of the victim’s belonging.

“Paramedics believed that the victim died within seven hours before being noticed by his colleague,” he said.

He added that the victim’s body was taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for a Covid-19 test and post-mortem.

Ahsmon stated that the case, classified as sudden death, is still under investigation.

The public are urged not to make any speculations and respect the privacy of the victim’s family.
