ASAJAYA: An underground cable system project here is expected to be fully completed by June of this year.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang said the project would address the frequent power outages that occur in the affected areas, especially during festive seasons.

“The project is expected to benefit approximately 70,000 residents in the Asajaya area including Sadong Jaya and Sebuyau,” she said.

Rubiah, who is also the Kota Samarahan MP, said this after officiating at the ‘Pautan Kasih Parlimen Kota Samarahan Zon Asajaya’ programme here recently.

Considering that the celebration of Hari Raya this year falls earlier than the project completion date, she requested Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) to enhance the electricity supply capacity during this festive season.

During the programme, Rubiah also presented contributions to 264 needy individuals to facilitate their preparations for the Hari Raya celebration.

“Both the federal and state governments are always providing assistance to the targeted groups, considering the increasing cost of living presently,” she said.
