SERIAN: The Lions Club of Serian, in conjunction with its 35th anniversary celebration, has carried out various humanitarian projects together with its sister club, the Lions Club of Johor Bahru (JB) City, as well as the Serian Welfare Department.

One of the Lions Club of Serian’s project directors Lai Chau Liong told that the club with the Serian Welfare Department had provided new bedding and clothing for an abandoned blind and elderly man named Lee, as well as a monthly allowance of RM350 approved by the department.

Meanwhile, the Lions Club of Serian had donated rations to an unemployed single father Mohd Arifin, who has a disabled son; both are residing at Kampung Kakeng.

The Lions Club of Serian and the Lions Club of JB City had donated school items to 15 underprivileged students from SK Kujang Mawang in the Tebedu area.

These students aged seven to 12, who were either orphans or from families in the low-income group, received school bags, uniforms, school shoes and stationery.

“There are many needy families around, especially families with children who will be starting school in the coming new term,” said another of the Lions Club of Serian’s project directors Judy Hii.

In addition, 12 pre-schoolers aged four to six received two packets of milk powder each.

A total of 15 new mattresses and used story books were also donated to the school.

Senior assistant of student affairs Irene Atien and chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association Donny Achan witnessed the distribution.

“We hope that these contributions will motivate the children and ease the financial burdens of the families. We wish to thank the donors who have contributed to this meaningful cause,” said Hii.
