KUCHING: A total of 70 underprivileged students of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Merpati Jepang here received back-to-school items yesterday.

Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How officiated at the back-to-school programme along with Sarawak Penggerak Muafakat Nasional chairwoman Nurhanim Hanna Mokhsen and school headmaster Halim Borhan

The back-to-school initiative is an effort by Federal Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin to provide necessary school supplies for children from low-income households in certain schools.

“More than 2,000 school necessities were distributed throughout the state,” See said, adding that such programme would also be implemented in schools at Batu Kitang, Bau and Petra Jaya areas soon.

On Friday, 40 students of SK St Andrew here were privileged to have received the same aid from the programme.

The supplies include bags, shoes and stationery.
