Unemployed man acquitted of drug possession

KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here today acquitted an unemployed man, Norisyam Abdullah from Kampung Haji Baki here of a drug possession charge.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi said the prosecution had failed to prove a prima facie case against the accused.

“With that, the court decided to acquit the accused of the charge,” she said.

Norisyam was charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 with possessing methamphetamine weighing 5.32g at a roadblock near Jalan Batu Kawa – Stephen Yong on March 31 last year.

Inspector Shafiqa Ilin prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyers Christopher Bada, Abdul Rahman Mohd Hazmi and Nur Azureen Zainudin.
