Unemployed man charged of murder

MIRI: An unemployed man was charged with the murder of his own uncle last month by the Magistrate’s Court today.

The accused, Danien Elia, 31, stood before Magistrate Sandy Yvette Freddy as the charge was read aloud.

According to the charge sheet, Danien was accused of causing the death of 57-year-old Lah Wan between 5am and 9.03am on April 17 at a lake, near the road leading to the Lakeshore Villa Senadin.

The body of the deceased was found floating in Tasik Senadin by members of the public around 9am on April 17.

The accused faces charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty, upon conviction.

During the proceedings, no plea was recorded and bail was not offered.

Magistrate Sandy has scheduled June 6 for further mention of the case, pending chemist and post mortem report.

ASP Mary Ong led the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented by counsel.
