Unifor gives out RM8 million grants

KUCHING: The Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) has distributed over RM8.176 million in grants to 72 churches, chapels, and temples across the state.

The grants will be used to improve the physical condition, repair, or renovate various buildings of worship, as well as to secure the construction site.

Its Minister-in-charge Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas presented the cheques for the grant to 19 members of parliament, state assemblymen or their representatives on behalf of these houses of worship in their respective constituencies.

The Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Datuk Sri Micheal Manyin Jawong, The Minister of Utilities Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, and Assistant Minister of Native Laws and Customs Datuk John Sikie Tayai were among the recipients receiving the Unifor grants.

This year, the state government has allocated a fund of RM50 million to Unifor to assist these houses of worship and in addition to this contribution, Uggah has also given out a total of RM13.280 million to 40 religious institutions last week.
