UNIFOR special COVID-19 grants for 75 bodies

KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian handed over Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) special COVID-19 grants to 75 Buddhist and Taoist bodies yesterday.

According to a press statement, the handing over of the grant took place at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Auditorium and each organisation received RM12,800 grants for its day-to-day operational costs incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr Sim, who is also the Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government said the grants, through UNIFOR, were part of the government effort to look after the interest of all Sarawakians irrespective of race and religion.

He added that only Sarawak government gives and shows respect by giving grants to all religious bodies.

Among those present were MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, political secretary to Premier Tan Kai, president of Federation of Kuching and Samarahan Division Chinese Associations Datuk Richard Wee and Temenggong Tan Joo Phoi.
