Unimas aims to up international student intake

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) aims to enrol more international students in the future as it offers more courses that suit their needs.

Unimas vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suadi said Unimas would be expecting more than 1,000 students for the October intake.

“I expect five per cent (around 900) of the new intake would be international students,” said Prof Kadim after attending the Chinese New Year do organised by Unimas Global on Friday (Jan 27).

“We expect more international students to come to Unimas to further their studies – bachelor’s degree, masters and PhD.

“So we are hoping to attract more in the future,” he said.

“A total of 6,020 internationals student, mostly from China (300), some 100 from Indonesia and five from Brunei, have finished their studies at Unimas.

“We are expecting to receive more students from the three countries, especially in October.”

As most international students are from China, he said that most of them chose courses in the Faculty of Economic and Business, Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts and Faculty of Language and Communication.

“However, we encourage them and also other international students to explore more options and take up courses from all of our faculties here.

“That is what we wish for and we also wish the best for them and for the university,” said Prof Kadim.
