SAMARAHAN: In line with the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2020 campaign by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in Putrajaya, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) has joined government agencies and other institutions of higher learning in celebrating the programme.

The launch and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign at the Unimas level was held at Dataran Canselori, officiated by Unimas deputy vice-chancellor (student affairs and alumni) Prof Dr Kamarudin Kana, on Tuesday.

In a brief speech, he advised the Unimas community to continue strengthening unity and harmony by establishing strong cooperation at all times.

“Let us continue to work together and maintain the independence of our country. This is an award that we must defend even in the new norm of life,” he said.

Aside from that, he added, the theme of ‘Malaysia Prihatin’ showed the government’s concern for the people, especially during the current Covid-19 pandemic.

He said that because of this, it was important for the Unimas community to continue upholding patriotism, which not only produces a sense of love and respect for the nation but also a sense of belonging which brings togetherness.

Meanwhile, the ceremony began with a prayer recitation from Al-Fadzil Ustaz Muktar Muhmad and there was also a Jalur Gemilang procession by seven Unimas auxiliary police led by SM Richard Tayak.

Next, Kamarudin and Unimas members, who attended in limited numbers to comply with the standard operating procedure, witnessed the raising of the Jalur Gemilang accompanied by the ‘Negaraku’ national anthem.
