Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit

According to its deputy vice-chancellor (Academic and International) Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, the institution had set up a task force in charge of monitoring its students and staff members since Jan 31.

He said the task force was carrying out its duties according to guidelines set by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

“We had conducted five meetings since the guidelines were issued. We have decided to monitor students and staff who travelled to China during the recent Chinese New Year season.

“Nine local and international members of Unimas have been examined and instructed to report to local hospitals and were ordered to undergo home quarantine,” he told reporters after an inaugural lecture programme held by Unimas here, yesterday.

He added that seven out of the nine individuals had successfully completed their home quarantine and the rest will follow soon.

Hata was also pleased to announce that so far, no case of the virus had been detected in Unimas.

He also said the task force was an additional precaution to the screening at airports.
