Unimas inks MoU with Thai university

SONGKHLA, Thailand: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RMUTSV) Thailand on Monday to formalise collaboration in education, research activity, staff exchange and student mobility.

The signing of the MoU, conducted at the RMUTSV campus here, will pave way for the establishment of a possible long-term partnership between Unimas and RMUTSV that will benefit academic staff and undergraduates from both universities.

Signing the MoU were Unimas deputy vice-chancellor (Academic and International) Prof Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit and Prof Dr Surat Tanyaros, vice-president for Academic Affairs of RMUTSV.

According to Prof Hata, inter-institutional collaborations were of imperative importance for the dynamic development of higher education institutions, especially those in Malaysia and Thailand, which were still growing and had yet to reach their full potential.

He added that the MoU was one of the strategies that could facilitate both institutions to strive in a competitive world by collaborating with potential partners who shared similar aspiration and ambition.

“Students will have the opportunity to intensify their knowledge and enrich their learning experience by participating in future programmes, which will be jointly organised by both universities.

“Studying in a foreign country will definitely be an eye-opener for them to understand how certain issues are being debated, analysed and solutions are made,” Prof Hata said.

RMUTSV has seven campuses that are located all over Thailand, including Songkhla Campus, Trang Campus, Sai Yai Campus, Thung Yai Campus, Khanom Campus and Centre of Research and Training in Chumporn, offering various programmes in five faculties namely Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Liberal Arts, Faculty of Architecture and Faculty of Industrial Education and Technology.

Also present at the signing ceremony were CEO of Unimas Business School Associate Professor Dr Puah Chin Hong, Dean of Faculty of Language and Communication Ambigapathy Pandian and 10 Unimas undergraduates who are currently participating in the Student Mobility Programme at Thaksin University.
