KOTA SAMARAHAN: In conjunction with World Animal Day celebrated worldwide on October 4 every year, the Institute of Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation (IBEC) from University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) organised its first ever open day which started yesterday.

The goals of the open day are to impart conservation message to the public, offer skills to students, and to promote biodiversity as a science for conservation, research, and ecotourism in Sarawak which is home to countless species of plants and animals.

Approximately 200 school students including teachers, non-Governmental organisations (NGOs), and other institutions also participated in the launching ceremony.

The launching was officiated by Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim on behalf of UNIMAS Vice Chancellor and witnessed by IBEC director, Professor Dr Gabriel Tonga Noweg, the Deans and Directors of UNIMAS, staff, and students. This two-day event will have wildlife talks, workshops, games with prizes, exhibitions of research products, sales of merchandise, and many more.
