Unimas PPV achieves record vaccination

KUCHING: The Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) vaccination centre (PPV) achieved a daily record high of 5,584 vaccinations on Friday (June 25).

In a post on the university’s official Facebook page, it said the figure was recorded at 7.30pm after having surpassed its daily vaccination target of 5,000 vaccinations at 6.15pm.

“The Unimas higher learning institution (IPT) PPV has set its record with the 5,584th vaccination at 7.30pm. Congratulations to all volunteers and those on duty,” it said.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad lauded the achievement of the varsity where it managed to vaccinate a total of 37,758 recipients since commencing operations just ten days ago.

“Well done and congratulations to the people of Unimas and the leadership of Unimas vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi on this achievement.

“Despite facing various challenges, but with the commitment and cooperation given by all volunteers and the support of the Sarawak state government, it is not impossible that the National Recovery Plan can be implemented more quickly,” she said.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian also commended the feat of the IPT PPV.

“What a way to finish week two of its operation. Truly it reflects the Sarawak spirit. The efforts are beyond extraordinary,” he said.

He said the varsity staff will have the weekend off to prepare for online class the following week. He added that with the staff rested, they could set another record next week.

Last week, the Unimas PPV solidified its status as a mega vaccination centre, being the largest PPV in Sarawak rolling out 5,000 vaccinations a day.
