KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) is gearing up to ensure that the management and control process of students returning to campus is organised.

Unimas said a dry run was recently held at Cempaka College, one of the university’s residential colleges.

“Semester 1 2021/2022 will commence soon and in comparison, to the previous semesters, universities throughout the country are beginning to welcome students back on campus.

“The management processes for the return of students on campus was explained by Cempaka’s principal Hafizan Hashim to assistant vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Mohd Fadzil Abdul Rahman, deputy vice-chancellor (students Affairs and Alumni) Prof Dr Kamarudin Kana and security division director Mohd Melintang Abdullah.

“For this semester, the residential colleges in Unimas are ready to welcome 3,500 students back. At the moment, there are 905 students residing at the university’s residential colleges,” it said in a statement yesterday (Oct 6).

It said the students will return to campus in seven phases starting from Oct 2 and expected to end on Nov 11.

It added that the university has stressed on crucial measures that must be undertaken by students who are permitted to return to campus.

“Among which, they must undergo a swab test and are only permitted to stay at the university’s residential colleges. This is to ensure that the students remain in a green bubble.

“Besides that, important measures are also being undertaken in the management process of students before they are allowed to enter a space or rooms in the residential colleges. For instance, unloading of bags at the drop zone, temperature check and sanitisation, confirmation of residential college offer letter, online registration as well as issuance of keys and guide to their designated rooms,” it said.
