KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) is once again shortlisted in the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia’s Outstanding Leadership and Management Team, and Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year categories.

Unimas said the Sustainability Centre (USC) would be representing the varsity in the Outstanding Leadership and Management Team category with a work titled Sustainable Leadership in Bringing University Impact to Community.

“USC emphasises the university’s responsibilities in creating good ripple effects that spread across communities, bringing equity to the world.

“The AlphaWater initiative, featured by USC, was created to solve and manage water difficulties in remote schools, beginning with the community at Ulu Balingian Secondary School.

“The initiative means that the school’s pupils and teachers no longer have to rely on rainwater gathering and untreated river water for their daily water needs.”

Meanwhile, for the Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year category, its Centre for Applied Learning and Multimedia (CALM) would be its representative.

“CALM uses the 3Es methodology (Engagement, Enrichment, and Encouragement) to provide awareness and the fundamentals for adopting a change, equipping its community with the necessary means to sustain and solidify the change, and delivering acknowledgements to embed the change.”

Unimas also won the Excellence and Innovation in the Arts category in 2020, thanks to its Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts.

The winners of this year’s THE Awards Asia will be announced on Dec 14 and 15.
