KUALA LUMPUR: The Union Network International-Malaysia Labour Centre (UNI-MLC) wants the government to review the pension payment rate for pensioners from government-linked companies (GLCs).

Its president, Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal said the government should think of the best way  to help the pensioners, who are Telekom Malaysia Berhad, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Keretapi Tanah Melayu, Pos Malaysia Berhad, North Port, PLUS, Malaysia Airport and other agencies that were privatised in early 1980s and 1990s, by including this in the 2021 Budget.

“The low pension payment is one of the social and economic problems. There are pensioners with service of less than 25 years, receiving pension as low as RM180 a month,” he said in a statement today.

He said more than 100,000 retirees from the GLCs are expecting good news on the matter in the 2021 Budget.

UNI-MLC has sent 10 memoranda in the last 20 years hoping that their demands would be met and taken into account in every budget, he added. – Bernama
