KUCHING: The decision to postpone the resumption of primary and secondary schools in Kuching, Padawan and Kota Samarahan is necessary to address the spread of Covid-19 pandemic, said Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Union (KGBS).

“KGBS is in full support with the action taken by State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to postpone the opening of school sessions for secondary and primary schools in these three districts until August 3 as there is a new Covid-19 cluster emerging in Kuching,” said its president Ahmad Malie in a press statement.

In expressing concern on the new cluster in the state capital, KGBS urged all parents and guardians residing in the affected districts to ensure that their children stay at home during this period.

“Please be reminded that the postponement of the school session is not a school holiday. Therefore, we urge all students to remain at home.

“KGBS also urges everyone to always take personal safety and health seriously and always comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the government.
