PADAWAN: Several Bidayuh areas are in the planning to become tourism spots due to their uniqueness and potential in attracting visitors.

Assistant Minister for Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said that with basic infrastructures like water, electricity and road connections already available, certain villages can be turn into tourism spots.

“Our areas have a lot of attractions such as waterfalls, camping sites, homestays and others, with their own uniqueness for people to see and enjoy.

“A big thank you to Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn who came up with the idea, and this will be in our master plan later on,” said Dr Jerip who is Mambong assemblymen during a leader with people programme at Kampung Kiding, on Saturday (Jan 15).

For Mambong area, he added it has beautiful green environment and nature that attract visitors, both locals and outsiders, to enjoy and experience the village life in the Padawan highland.

He cited Kampung Kiding, Kampung Kakas, Kampung Parang and Kampung Sapit which have unique environment like being enveloped by clouds early in the morning.

“I think it is unique and it is amazing to see and experience the village life among the clouds.

“Apart from that, we also have the Bengoh Dam, Teng Bekap and other beautiful areas.

“Hence, we want to promote our tourism products to the people so that they can experience and enjoy the beautiful nature that we have in our area,” he said.

He urged villagers to participate in various tourism programmes to develop their villages and welcome tourists in the future.

Dr Jerip hoped that Mambong could thrive as a tourism spot for visitors which would ultimately increase the socio-economy of the locals.

He urged the villagers to work with their local leaders in order to bring greater progress in their areas.
