SIBU: People need to play their role in preserving the unity between all races that has been built over a long time.
Dudong Assemblyman, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing made the call at the Merdeka@Komuniti Programme at Dewan Grand Height, on Today (Aug 21).

“Educate our children about the importance of the spirit of unity so that our patriotism remains,” he said in his speech read by the Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Brian Fung.

Tiong also urged the leaders and community to join hands to ensure the spirit of patriotism is maintained so that the country remains harmonious and prosperous.

“A patriotic spirit will enable the government to plan and implement development in an orderly manner for the benefit of the people and the country.

“It can improve the well-being of people through political stability, stimulate the national economy and strengthen social relations.
“So, let us be determined in making sure that our community both mentally and physically always look up to and respect the Jalur Gemilang as a symbol of our national identity,” he said.

Tiong believes that the Merdeka @Komuniti programme can instill the patriotic spirit and love for the country as well as show understanding and unity as Malaysians.

Remember that it was not easy for us to achieve independence. The previous fighters (pahlawan), figures, and leaders worked hard to claim the country’s independence to the point of sacrificing their lives and property.

“Now we can enjoy independence and live in gratitude. We need to play a role together in shouldering the trust and responsibility to defend the country’s independence so that future generations can inherit a peaceful, harmonious, prosperous, and prosperous country.

“Remember, it is not easy to build a country but it is very easy to tear it down. The next generation will surely languish if we cannot maintain unity, fail to take good care of this country, and fight each other because of conflicting opinions.

“Our diversity in Malaysia as a plural country should now be celebrated in a harmonious atmosphere because we are one family, ‘Keluarga Malaysia’,” he said.
