Unity City exemplified by bond within community

KUCHING: Continuous harmony and bond within the community are important milestones to ensure Kuching remains a Unity City.

“The key to social unity is continuous interaction between various groups or races here (Kuching),” Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said at the Mid-Autumn Festival 2020 here on Thursday (Oct 1).

Wee said MBKS had succeeded in building community ties and strengthening social unity in the city until it was crowned as a Unity City on Aug 1, 2015.

“This certainly includes unity that will lead to a good future for all communities in Kuching in the years to come.”

The Mid-Autumn Festival 2020, which was held on Oct 1, saw people of various race and creed converging to celebrate the occasion.

He that MBKS wanted to make full use of the available space to create healthier activities, including its new park. “I hope we continue to create a strong spirit of unity.”

At the same time, he said the Moon Cake Festival provided a good opportunity to gather family, neighbours and friends.

“In addition, all ethnic groups can learn to appreciate each other’s traditions and culture through the celebration.”

Also present were Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Federation of Chinese Associations of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Division president Datuk Richard Wee.
