MUKAH: Racial unity in Sarawak needs to be maintained to ensure continued progress and development.

Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi, in pointing this out, said that good relations between the races could help in the smooth implementation of government development projects.

He added that racial unity required the support of all parties as a whole.

“Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and individuals also play an important role.

“The peace and harmony that we have achieved today need to be protected and appreciated,” he said at the Randau Solidarity Programme Community (RSK) of the Mukah District Year 2022 here yesterday.

The programme aimed to foster racial harmony in Sarawak and to address social issues to ensure public safety.

The programme that took place at Rumah Elizabeth Payung was well received by the locals. It included knowledge-sharing sessions through dialogues, exhibitions and sports.

In addition to the residents of Rumah Elizabeth, the programme was also attended by the residents of nearby longhouses.
