MIRI: Socio-political harmony can be preserved when people are united, said Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

Speaking with particular reference to the rural people, he said they should never allow outsiders to come in and cause chaos in their midst by dividing them into conflicting camps.

“They must not be divided over political differences,” he said yesterday while attending a pre-Christmas gathering at Rumah Panting Dok, about 45 minutes’ drive from Miri city.

Lee also said they should be grateful to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government for the development projects implemented all these years.

“It’s just like you show your gratitude to your parents who raised you up. Like parents, we (the state government) help our children (the people) because we care for them, not because we want to be thanked,” he explained.

At the longhouse, Lee and his entourage also distributed reading glasses to some of the villagers who are short-sighted.
