University student wins logo competition

Twenty-year-old Voon Cherng Jyh, a Sarawakian student with University Tuan Abdul Razak (Utar) Kuala Lumpur, was announced as the winner of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) logo design competition.

Voon from Mile 10 here said his logo design was inspired when he first heard the word ‘Sarawak’.

“When I heard Sarawak, I immediately thought of hornbill. The original logo is a hornbill looking at the sky, and looking proud like we are proud of GPS as a Sarawakian,” he said when met by reporters after the launching of GPS Logo and Song ceremony at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters, yesterday.

He added that for the three colours, it was the requirement stated for the logo design competition.

“This is my first time winning a logo design competition despite having joined several other logo design competitions.

“Winning the RM10, 000 cash prizes will help me with my education, family and also for some charity,” he said, adding logo designing was a hobby he started three years ago.

The competition also saw Denna Ance Bunas getting RM5000 after winning second place and Noor Shizarin Isnin, third place (RM3000).

Five others namely, Brendan Goh Chuang Lung, Sahrein Maloh, Lee Ren Wei, Abdul Rahman Abdul Rahim and Sharifah Ajauyah Wan Abdul Rahman won the consolation prize of  RM1000 each.
