BETONG: Betong Agriculture Office and Area Farmers Organisation (PPK) Saribas bought 360 unsold pineapples from the Kubal Batu farmers for the frontliners starting at 9am at the State Complex here yesterday.

According to Betong Agriculture officer Peter Kang, agricultural produces here (including pineapple) has not been sold since the movement control order (MCO) came into force.

“We (Agriculture Office) have been informed of the difficulty of farmers from the Kubal Batu area to sell their surplus pineapple.

“To ensure that these produce are not wasted, we have decided to buy the pineapple ― which will be donated to health, police, Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Welfare Department, Rela and Civil Defense Force (APM) personnel.

“In addition to helping the affected farmers (during this MCO period), this contribution is also a tribute to the frontliners who have worked hard to stop the spread of Covid-19,” he told reporter yesterday.

He added that in the event of similar incidents to other farmers, they could contact the nearest Agriculture Office.
