KUCHING: Taman Puteri residents’ dream of having a surau was fulfiled after work on upgrading Surau Al-Kauthar was completed recently.

Assistant Minister at the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the residential area, which houses more than 600 families, was in need of a bigger and more comfortable surau.

He said a total of RM200,000 was invested in the surau for upgrades using the Pantai Damai rural transformation programme (RTP).

“Thank God, works to upgrade the surau have been completed and it will benefit the surrounding community,” he said, after inspecting the work yesterday.

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Utilities (Water Supply) Assistant Minister, said works to upgrade the 10-year-old surau took a year.

Cooperation between the community and the implementing agency was crucial to accelerating the progress of a project, he added.

“It is important for each project to be completed according to the schedule,” he said.

Dr Abdul Rahman said a total of 37 RTP projects were approved in the Pantai Damai constituency for implementation this year.

“Each year, we receive at least 30 RTPs involving approved basic infrastructure projects in our area,” he said.

Also present were Public Works Department (JKR) minor rural project (MRP) engineer Sahril Matnor, the surau’s management committee and Taman Puteri village safety and development committee (JKKK).
