BELADIN: The government sees the need to upgrade the Beladin Water Treatment Plant to increase the production capacity of clean water as an urgent matter that should be given immediate attention.

Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor said disruption of water supply during the festive season, including the drought season has caused difficulties for residents.

According to him, it happened in almost all areas in Beladin and the situation was worse when there was a broken pipe or leakage.

“However, the Sarawak government is concerned about the problems. Batang Lupar Member of Parliament (MP) Mohamad Shafizan Kepli and I are always working hard.

“Alhamdulillah, I recently received a response that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government agreed to upgrade the Beladin Water Treatment Plant. It is also understood that the project will be tendered in the near future.

“We hope that by the end of this year, the plant will be able to produce water up to five million litres per day (MLD) compared to two MLD at the moment, which I believe is not enough to cover the increasing needs,” he said.

Razaili said this at the Batang Lupar parliamentary constituency and Beting Maro state constituency Hari Raya Aidilfitri event for Beladin Zone here on Wednesday night.

He hoped that the agency implementing the project would be able to give a high commitment.

“I am confident that this problem has come to the knowledge of the ministry and relevant departments as it is not only happening in Beladin, but also in Pusa and its surroundings.

“Therefore, I hope the upgrading project can be implemented according to the set time frame. The sooner, the better,” he said.

Razaili added, there are several other projects planned to solve related issues including improving the high level tank (HLT).

Regarding other utility issues such as electricity and Internet connections, he said, the government through Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) has completed a power substation with a capacity of 33kV in Pusa.

“I believe that when it operates later, it will be able to stabilise the supply of power sources to the surrounding area.

He said that nowadays, with the use technology, everything was at the fingertips and urged the community to not use it to threaten the unity among the community.

“So, during this Hari Raya, take the opportunity to strengthen bonds with each other, forgive and forget disputes,” he added.
